One of the frustrations experienced by many oncologists is pharmaceutical pricing. Typically a staff member monitors special offers and shops for the best pricing available. This system left many drug margins spiking up and down on a daily basis. And depending upon the overall individual volume, some pricing was not even available to you!

One of ways that OPR has helped practices of all sizes is by taking this burden from the individual offices and centralizing it. An OPR staffer is continually checking out pricing for all members.

Because OPR functions as one large practice, better pricing is available.

Here is how it works:

  • OPR negotiated a very aggressive contract with our distributor.
  • Our contract has strict price matching clauses.
  • OPR staff monitors pricing continually.  We also compare it to current reimbursement rates to minimize or negate underwater drugs.
  • A committee of OPR member volunteers was created to make sure that they cannot secure pricing at a better rate.
  • If a member receives an offer from a distributor/vendor, they notify OPR and we try to match it for all members.  If we cannot, then all members are told about the offer and may purchase it off contract with no compliant penalty.

OPRplus is also the division of OPR that sends disbursements back to our members.  Since our administrative fees are based on purchases, each individual member is tracked and used to determine the portion of the administrative fee being returned.

  • Compliant members are rewarded with a share of the admin fee based upon their individual volume
  • Members are compliant by purchasing 90% of their drugs from our preferred distributor.
  • Twice a year, OPRplus makes a disbursement to members of the admin fees earned.

 

 

OPRplus Fact

In the last year, OPR has saved members $755,265.00 with its aggressive pricing structure.  This amounts to savings of $8035.00 per physician.
